Gracie Barra Interschool Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament November 6th, 2010

The next Gracie Barra Interschool tournament for children and adults is scheduled for November 6th and will be held at Irvine Valley College. We have had a lot of fun at this tournament in the past. It is a great way to get to know people in the SoCal region who are also learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and share stories and experiences with each other.

This tournament is run in such a way that children and adults of all levels will be simultaneously challenged and encouraged to enjoy themselves.  As we naturally step onto the mat with winning as our goal,  this is a day where the focus is truly on having a good time and building camaraderie within the sport.

Our philosophy is that preparation, facing the competition experience, and building relationships carries as much worth as the end result in competition. These principles will no doubt be shining through on November 6th. Whether you are a seasoned competitor or considering November 6th as your first venture onto the competition mat, you are invited to participate in the experience.

The Gracie Barra Competition Network is at its very core a positive and closely knit organization of athletes. GBCN tournaments are conducted with the highest level of integrity, camaraderie and sportsmanship, with our athletes, staff, and officials always keeping safety in mind. We strive to be the competitive birthplace and proving grounds of champions — keeping the legacy alive!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Kids Demonstration – Lake Hills Elementary Carnival

Big thanks to all the families who joined us at the carnival. It was a fun time to visit and show off some jiu-jitsu to the community. There are still so many people who do not know about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and/or who readily compare it to other martial arts styles that they are familiar with. We have watched a great many changes since coming to California in 1995. During those early years, California was the place to be in the US for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since some of the 2nd generation Gracie cousins had made the choice to move here! It was quite awhile before we saw large kids classes (not to mention women and middle aged athletes) developing. An event like today is a grand mark that more and more people are learning what BJJ is, what it is not, and how they can participate and benefit personally and socially from learning self defense in a fun and enjoyable way.71829_162954533723016_100000254100667_474743_4720925_n.jpg
